Six police officers from the Kazhakkoottam Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram have been suspended after a video of them drinking in public surfaced. The officers, caught on camera consuming alcohol inside a parked car, are now required to undergo good conduct training as part of their suspension.
The incident, deemed a “serious lapse” and “completely unacceptable” by a preliminary inquiry, occurred during duty hours in front of the police station. Despite claiming they were attending a wedding, the officers’ actions were considered a violation of service rules and a display of gross indiscipline.
Following a swift probe by senior officials, the officers were suspended and are facing further disciplinary action. The Kazhakkoottam Assistant Commissioner of Police conducted the initial inquiry, leading to the disciplinary measures taken against the erring personnel.
The public’s recording of the officers’ behavior and its subsequent circulation among police authorities led to immediate intervention by the department. The police leadership emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards actions that erode public trust in law enforcement.
