Social media has become a significant battleground for politics in Rajasthan, with both the Congress and the BJP recognizing its impact on public opinion and electoral reach. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot emphasized the need for the government to listen to the voices of Gen Z on social media, while the BJP plans to enhance its Instagram strategy post the ongoing Parliament session, gearing up for the upcoming local body elections.
Instagram has evolved into a crucial tool for political messaging, especially among the younger demographic in Rajasthan. While some of the state’s top leaders boast millions of followers, over half of the ministers have less than 50,000 followers on the platform.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot highlighted the growing influence of the digital space, stating that the voices of Gen Z are resonating strongly on social media and should not be disregarded by the government. He questioned why the BJP government is not taking these young voices seriously.
On the other hand, BJP spokesperson Ramlal Sharma mentioned that the party will reassess its digital outreach strategy once the Parliament session concludes, focusing on the upcoming local body elections and revamping its Instagram and social media approach.
The renewed emphasis on digital engagement follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push to strengthen the BJP’s presence on social media platforms, particularly Instagram, which plays a pivotal role in reaching out to first-time and young voters in the political landscape.
