The Somali National Army (SNA) and international partners conducted a successful joint operation in the Middle Shabelle region of southern Somalia, resulting in the elimination of 30 al-Shabaab militants. Additionally, two vehicles, weapons, ammunition, and logistical supplies used by the group for planning terrorist activities were destroyed during the mission.
The military operations, which occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday, specifically targeted al-Shabaab mobilisation centers and training facilities. These locations were actively utilized by the militant group for storing crucial military supplies, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The Ministry of Defence expressed gratitude to the international partners for their support in Somalia’s counterterrorism efforts, emphasizing the pivotal role of this assistance in the operation’s success. Al-Shabaab did not provide any comments on the operations, which coincided with escalated ground offensives by Somalia’s elite forces and their global allies.
Last month, the SNA dealt a significant blow to al-Shabaab by eliminating 50 fighters and injuring others in a coordinated military operation near Baidoa in Southwest State. The forces also dismantled multiple technical battle vehicles, weapons caches, and operational equipment belonging to the militant group during the offensive.
