The Somnath Swabhiman Parv, starting on Thursday, marks the 75th anniversary of the consecration of Jyotirlinga at the historic Somnath Temple. Modi Archive shared throwback images from a 2001 event celebrating the temple’s golden jubilee with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani in attendance.
The event, honoring the 50th anniversary of the consecration ceremony, was supervised by then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi. It concluded the year-long Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Jyotirlinga’s Pran Pratishtha at the Somnath Temple.
During the event, PM Modi, then Chief Minister, emphasized the temple’s significance as a reflection of the nation’s conscience and paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives to protect the Jyotirlingas. Today, the Somnath Swabhiman Parv marks 1000 years since the temple’s first attack in 1026, celebrating its enduring legacy.
PM Modi extended greetings to the nation via social media, highlighting the temple’s timeless cultural spirit. He invited citizens to join the celebrations by sharing memories and announced his upcoming visit to the Somnath Temple for the Swabhiman Parv festivities.
As part of the observance, a series of spiritual and social programs are scheduled at the Somnath Temple in Gujarat from January 8 to January 11. The central theme of the Parv is “Unbroken Faith,” emphasizing the temple’s role as a symbol of resilience, cultural continuity, and national unity.
