Soorma Hockey Club secured a 6-1 victory over SG Pipers in their last group stage match of the Men’s Hockey India League (HIL) at Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium. Despite the win, Soorma fell short of advancing to the next round as they needed a seven-goal margin to qualify. Jeremy Hayward’s exceptional performance, including four goals, and Lucas Martinez’s strike contributed to Soorma’s dominant display.
Starting strongly, Soorma took the lead early with Hayward’s drag flicks and Martinez’s goal. The team maintained pressure throughout, with Hayward converting another penalty corner to extend their lead. Despite the Pipers’ efforts, Soorma’s relentless attacks and solid defense kept them in control, securing a convincing victory.
In the subsequent quarters, Soorma continued their offensive tactics, with Hayward’s powerful flicks proving crucial. The Pipers struggled to break through Soorma’s defense, with occasional attempts thwarted by goalkeeper Vincent Vanasch. Despite a late surge from the Pipers, Soorma’s disciplined play and effective penalty conversions sealed their 6-1 win.
