South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is set to visit Japan’s Nara prefecture for a two-day summit with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The meeting aims to enhance bilateral relations and address various regional and global issues. The talks will cover topics such as the economy, society, and culture, fostering a future-oriented approach to diplomacy.
Lee and Takaichi previously met in October and November for discussions during international forums. The upcoming visit will include a friendship event and engagements with ethnic Koreans in Japan. This visit marks Lee’s second trip to Japan, emphasizing efforts to strengthen ties through reciprocal visits and shuttle diplomacy.
The planned summit is crucial amid heightened tensions between Japan and China over recent remarks by the Japanese prime minister regarding Taiwan. South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun also engaged with Japan’s ruling party to promote bilateral relations and emphasized the importance of continued diplomatic efforts.
