The southwest monsoon has regained strength in Rajasthan after a two-week pause, leading to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing orange and yellow alerts for thunderstorms and rainfall in all 33 districts. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in various parts of the state over the next three days, offering relief from the recent intense heatwave. Several districts, including Jaipur, Udaipur, Alwar, Bhilwara, Kota, Chittorgarh, Dausa, and Sikar, witnessed rainfall on Monday.
In Jaipur, showers that started late Monday continued intermittently until Tuesday morning, resulting in a noticeable temperature drop. Todabhim in Karauli district recorded the highest rainfall at 32 mm in the past 24 hours. However, Sikar experienced intense overnight rain, leading to severe waterlogging in several areas.
Rainfall data shows that Sikar Rural recorded 119 mm, Dhod 116 mm, Palsana 42 mm, Reengus 45 mm, and Laxmangarh 38 mm. Waterlogging disrupted normal traffic as water accumulated up to four feet on parts of Nawalgarh Road. Dense cloud cover persisted over the district on Tuesday morning, with ongoing intermittent showers.
The IMD mentioned that the monsoon trough has shifted back to its normal position, allowing moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal to become active over eastern and northeastern Rajasthan. Consequently, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated on Tuesday in parts of the Kota Division, Jaipur Division, Bharatpur Division, Ajmer Division, and Bikaner Division. Starting Wednesday, the monsoon is expected to strengthen further across various divisions, with heavy rainfall likely in Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions.
Despite the monsoon’s return, temperatures remained high in northern Rajasthan due to the prolonged dry spell. Sri Ganganagar recorded the highest temperature at 42.9 degrees Celsius, while Bikaner reached 40.5 degrees Celsius. Conversely, Jaipur saw a significant weather improvement, with the maximum temperature dropping by nearly 3 degrees to 34.4 degrees Celsius post overnight rain.
Light to moderate rainfall was reported in Kitasar village of Sri Dungargarh (Bikaner), benefiting standing crops and raising hopes for improved agricultural conditions in rain-fed regions. With monsoon clouds covering Rajasthan once again, residents are advised by the IMD to stay vigilant for thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall in the coming days, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
