Conditions are favorable for the southwest monsoon’s advancement over Tamil Nadu, with the Regional Meteorological Centre predicting widespread rainfall, especially along the Western Ghats. Heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected in parts of the state in the coming days. The Nilgiris, Theni, and Dindigul districts, along with Coimbatore’s ghat areas, are likely to experience intense downpours.
The strengthening monsoon conditions are anticipated to bring significant rainfall to the Western Ghats region, offering relief from recent heat and dry weather. However, there is a possibility of local flooding, landslides, and disruptions in vulnerable hill areas. The RMC has also forecast heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in various districts, including Erode, Salem, and Madurai.
Apart from the heavy rain warning areas, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in several districts. Residents in hilly and low-lying areas are advised to stay vigilant. Strong winds and lightning from thunderstorms may affect normal activities in different parts of the state. Uncomfortable weather conditions are expected to persist over the northern coastal belt, with high temperatures and humidity levels.
