Spain finalized its World Cup preparations with a goalless draw against Egypt at Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium. Coach Luis de la Fuente made significant changes to the team, including David Raya in goal, Ferran Torres leading the attack, Carlos Soler in central midfield, and Ander Barrenetxea making his international debut.
Despite efforts from both sides, Spain’s performance was disjointed, and Egypt nearly scored in the first half with a close attempt by Omar Marmoush. Spain made substitutions in the second half, with Victor Munoz and Pedri joining the game to boost their performance, but they failed to break the deadlock.
Joan Garcia made his debut as a goalkeeper in the 62nd minute, replacing Raya, and faced a mixed reaction from the crowd, mainly Espanyol supporters. Despite late threats from Borja Iglesias and Alex Grimaldo hitting the post from a free kick, Egypt managed to hold on for a commendable draw. The result leaves De la Fuente with decisions to make for the final World Cup squad selection.
Spain’s draw against Egypt marked a successful preparation phase, following their victory over the Saudi national team and a draw against a strong opponent in front of a supportive crowd. Spain is set to face Peru in Mexico on June 8 before kicking off their World Cup campaign against Cape Verde on June 15.
