A Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Bengaluru has sentenced Mohammed Haneef Khan, a key accused in the 2020 Al-Hind ISIS terror conspiracy case, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 48,000.
Haneef Khan, the first accused convicted in this case, pleaded guilty during the trial that began in October 2025. Investigations revealed his involvement in scouting locations for training camps and hideouts in Karnataka to establish an ISIS province in the region.
The mastermind of the conspiracy, Mehaboob Pasha, organized meetings in Bengaluru to plan targeted killings for inciting communal riots and promoting the ISIS agenda. Pasha, along with his relatives, conspired to procure arms and explosives to support ISIS activities, providing Haneef with weapons for violent acts.
Haneef drove co-accused from Bengaluru to West Bengal as part of the larger conspiracy. The case, initially handled by the Karnataka Police, was later taken over by the NIA. The agency continues its investigation to locate the online handler behind the Al-Hind ISIS module.
