Special camps are being organized in Tamil Nadu over two days to assist with voter registration as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls. This initiative follows a significant removal of names from the state’s voter list, with around 97.37 lakh names deleted during the revision process. Consequently, the total number of registered voters in the State has decreased to approximately 5.43 crore.
The revision exercise aims to enhance the accuracy of the voter database by eliminating duplicate, deceased, or ineligible entries. The process for adding new names to the voter list commenced on December 19, with special registration camps previously held on December 27 and 28 at nearly 75,000 polling booths across the State. Officials have reported positive feedback, with 7.37 lakh people applying for inclusion in the electoral rolls and 9,535 requests for name deletion received.
To encourage broader participation, special camps are being conducted again at all polling booths in Tamil Nadu. Election authorities are urging eligible citizens, especially those who recently turned 18 or had their names removed during the revision, to utilize this opportunity by submitting Form 6 for inclusion in the voter list. The upcoming schedule includes special correction camps on January 18 for voters to rectify details in the draft electoral rolls, with the final voter list set to be published on February 17.
