Former South Africa cricketer Dale Steyn has expressed dissatisfaction with Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling strategy during their recent match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026. Despite setting a formidable total of 201/9, Sunrisers Hyderabad faced a six-wicket defeat due to what Steyn perceived as a lack of clear plans in their bowling tactics. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru team capitalized on this weakness, scoring 76 runs in the power-play phase of the chase.
Steyn particularly praised Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Ishan Kishan for his impressive batting performance, scoring 80 runs and effectively controlling the innings. However, he criticized the team’s bowlers for failing to implement strategic plans in the latter part of the match. Steyn highlighted the need for discussions within the Sunrisers Hyderabad team management to optimize the utilization of their bowling resources for future games.
Emphasizing the importance of a balanced approach, Steyn noted that Sunrisers Hyderabad’s aggressive batting style requires their bowlers to take wickets and create pressure on the opposition, especially on flat tracks like those in Hyderabad. He underscored the necessity for the team to adapt their bowling tactics and execute well-defined plans to enhance their chances of success in high-scoring matches. Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Kolkata Knight Riders in their upcoming game on April 2 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
