President Murmu, who recognizes the historical contribution of tribal players to India’s sports achievements, emphasized the role of tribal communities in the country’s first Olympic hockey gold in 1928. She also shared her personal interest in sports during her childhood in a tribal village, highlighting the importance of sports in fostering teamwork and social bonds.
Acknowledging the ‘Khelo India’ initiative for its efforts in providing sports opportunities across different regions and social groups, President Murmu praised the ‘Asmita’ scheme under the program for promoting girls’ participation in sports and nurturing tribal talent.
