Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and the Indian Navy have commended Gurindervir, the first Indian sprinter to run the men’s 100m in under 10.10 seconds. Gurindervir, 25, achieved this milestone at the National Senior Athletics Federation Competition 2026 in Ranchi, clocking 10.09 seconds and surpassing the previous national record.
Gurindervir, a Petty Officer in the Indian Navy, not only reclaimed his men’s 100m title but also met the Athletics Federation of India’s qualification standards for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, both set at 10.16 seconds. The Indian Navy praised his speed and dedication, while Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary applauded Gurindervir’s achievement, calling it a source of pride for the nation and a beacon for aspiring athletes.
Gurindervir’s remarkable performance at the Federation Cup in Ranchi has been hailed as a significant moment for Indian athletics, with hopes that it will inspire the youth to pursue their dreams.
