The death toll in Bihar’s East Champaran due to the spurious liquor tragedy has reached 11, with the recent demise of Jitendra Shah. Jitendra, a resident of Balganga, leaves behind a devastated family, including five daughters who have lost their sole breadwinner. His daughter, Rani Kumari, alleges foul play, stating that her father was served the toxic liquor by a neighbor, leading to his untimely death.

Local residents recounted the distressing symptoms experienced by victims after consuming the poisonous liquor, including severe restlessness, rapid breathing, abdominal pain, and blurred vision. Jitendra’s health deteriorated rapidly after consuming the liquor, and despite medical treatment, he passed away.

The tragic incident began on April 2 when numerous individuals fell ill in Motihari after consuming the spurious liquor. The death toll climbed swiftly, with a total of 11 fatalities reported so far, while approximately 15 others remain hospitalized. Medical experts have confirmed that the deaths were caused by methyl alcohol-contaminated liquor, which can have severe and often fatal effects on the body.

Authorities are investigating an illicit liquor network suspected to be operating in the region, with ties to smuggling across the Nepal border and the use of industrial-grade chemicals in alcohol adulteration. Several individuals, including alleged key players like Sunil Shah and Kanhaiya Yadav, have been apprehended in connection with the case.
