Student protests in Bihar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to NEET paper leaks escalated into violence in Darbhanga and Begusarai. In Darbhanga, clashes with the police occurred at Lohia Chowk, resulting in injuries to the City Superintendent of Police and a police Constable during stone-pelting.
Authorities reported that nearly 2,000 students gathered without permission at Karpoori Chowk in Darbhanga before moving towards Collectorate Road to demand Pradhan’s resignation. As the protest unfolded, some protesters allegedly threw stones at the police, prompting a lathi-charge and tear gas shell firing to restore order.
In Begusarai, a similar confrontation took place as students marched towards the District Collectorate, leading to detainment of several individuals for questioning. Despite police efforts to maintain peace, tensions persisted with protesters regrouping and continuing demonstrations near the protest site.
District officials and police forces in both Darbhanga and Begusarai intensified security measures, with surveillance ongoing to prevent further escalation and identify those involved in the violent incidents.
