Students at Moulana Azad National Urdu University in Hyderabad have issued a warning to escalate their protest if the Telangana government proceeds with reclaiming 50 acres of university land. The students met with Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao to discuss the show-cause notice served to university authorities by the State government.
The revenue authorities sent a notice to the university’s Registrar seeking an explanation for the unused land within the campus. Expressing their concerns, the students informed the BRS leader that the government’s action jeopardizes the university’s future. They highlighted receiving threats after announcing their protest plans.
A student leader, addressing the media, criticized the government’s move, drawing parallels between the policies of the BJP government at the Centre and the Congress government in Telangana. Emphasizing the significant student population at MANUU, he cautioned against any actions that could harm the university’s interests, warning of potential repercussions for the Congress party nationally.
K. T. Rama Rao accused the Congress government of attempting to weaken MANUU, labeling it as the only Urdu university in the country and a valuable asset to Hyderabad. He alleged that the government’s motive behind reclaiming the land was for real estate purposes, likening their actions to that of a serial land grabber. Rao pledged support to the students, promising assistance for the university’s expansion upon BRS’s return to power.
