The carcass of a sub-adult tiger was discovered in the Mihimukh area of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam. Park officials located the four-day-old carcass during routine surveillance activities. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the tiger’s death. Post-mortem procedures were initiated following the discovery.
A committee led by KNPTR Director Sonali Ghosh was formed to conduct the post-mortem examination and disposal of the tiger’s carcass. The post-mortem examination took place on Sunday but could not determine the cause of death due to the advanced decomposition stage. Earlier this year, three tiger carcasses were also found in the park, with preliminary findings suggesting infighting as a cause of death in some cases.
Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to various wildlife species, including Bengal tigers, one-horned rhinoceroses, and Asian elephants. The park, spread across multiple districts, plays a crucial role in wildlife conservation and generated significant revenue in recent years.
