The Baramati Assembly constituency is currently undergoing a crucial bye-election counting process after the demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Sunetra Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister’s wife, has taken a significant lead with 36,377 votes by the end of the fourth round. Despite facing 22 candidates, Sunetra Pawar’s dominance has been unchallenged since the beginning.
The voter turnout in Baramati was 58.27%, lower than the previous elections. Out of 384,579 voters, only 224,087 cast their votes during the polling held on April 23. Sunetra Pawar, among 23 candidates after a withdrawal, faced no major party opposition, making the race mainly between her and Independent candidates.
Youth leader Yugendra Pawar expressed confidence in Sunetra Pawar’s performance, predicting her victory by a large margin. As the results became clear, Sunetra Pawar dedicated her win to the memory of Ajit Pawar, urging party members to celebrate with restraint. In a post, she thanked the people of Baramati for the opportunity to fulfill Ajit Pawar’s vision.
In the Rahuri Assembly bye-election, BJP’s Akshay Kardile is leading in the fourth round of counting. Akshay Kardile secured 20,849 votes, surpassing NCP (SP) nominee Govind Mokate. The bye-election in Rahuri was triggered by the passing of former BJP legislator Shivajirao Kardile last year.
