Defending champions India’s 72-run victory over Zimbabwe has boosted confidence, but Sunil Gavaskar cautions against underestimating two-time champions West Indies. Gavaskar emphasizes the need for smart strategies to counter the Windies’ strong batting lineup in their upcoming Super Eights face-off in Kolkata. India’s adjustments after the South Africa loss, including batting changes and improved bowling, have been commended by Gavaskar for their positive impact.

India’s response to the defeat against South Africa, with notable changes in the playing XI, showcased resilience and adaptability. Sanju Samson’s quick 24 runs and Abhishek Sharma’s measured 55 were pivotal in India’s strong performance against Zimbabwe. Gavaskar highlights the significance of these contributions in setting the stage for India’s impressive total of 256/4. He stresses the importance of maintaining focus and not underestimating the West Indies in the upcoming crucial match.

Gavaskar praises the maturity displayed by Abhishek Sharma in his innings against Zimbabwe, noting his cautious approach and improved shot selection. The legendary opener emphasizes the learning curve experienced by Sharma and the value of such experiences in a player’s development. With the spotlight on the impending clash with West Indies, Gavaskar underscores the importance of continuous learning and growth for players like Sharma in high-stakes encounters.
