Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori stood by his team’s batting performance following a crushing defeat against Gujarat Titans, where they were bundled out for just 86 runs. Despite the setback, Vettori labeled it as a common occurrence in tournaments.
Gujarat Titans, led by Sai Sudharsan’s 61 and Washington Sundar’s 50, posted 168/5. In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad slumped to their lowest-ever IPL total of 86 while chasing 169, marking their most significant defeat by runs in the IPL.
Vettori emphasized the importance of a strong start, acknowledging that failing to do so led to their downfall. He praised the batting unit’s overall performance throughout the season and attributed the loss to a minor setback that all teams encounter occasionally.
Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder shone with three wickets each for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Prasidh ‘Skiddy’ Krishna added two scalps, with Mohammed Siraj and Rashid Khan contributing one wicket each as Gujarat Titans climbed to the top of the points table after defending the second-lowest total this season.
The heavy loss negatively impacted Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Net Run Rate and highlighted the need for a swift recovery in their batting department. Despite the defeat, they remain in contention for the playoffs but must regroup quickly to secure a top-two finish in the upcoming matches.
