The Supreme Court has granted regular bail to Bollywood filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari in connection with an alleged Rs 30 crore fraud case. The couple was arrested at their Mumbai residence on December 7, 2025, and taken to Rajasthan’s Udaipur following a complaint by a Udaipur-based doctor accusing the director of defrauding him. The case, rooted in a commercial transaction, saw the Supreme Court overturning the Rajasthan High Court’s rejection of the couple’s bail pleas.
The Bench, led by the Chief Justice of India (CJI), suggested both parties seek an amicable settlement and attend the Supreme Court Mediation Centre to resolve the payment dispute. The apex court emphasized that the bail was granted in anticipation of efforts towards resolving the conflict. Last week, interim bail was given to Shwetambari Bhatt, with the condition of furnishing bail bonds to the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Udaipur, after the Rajasthan High Court had initially denied bail to Vikram Bhatt, his wife, and another accused.
An FIR filed against Vikram Bhatt and eight others by Dr. Ajay Murdia, owner of the Indira Group and Indira IVF, alleged that funds were collected under the guise of producing a biopic. The complaint stated that despite an agreed production cost of Rs 47 crore, only two films were completed and released. ‘Vishwa Virat’ is reportedly 25% complete, and ‘Maharana-Ran’ has not commenced. Vikram Bhatt is accused of misappropriating Rs 25 crore intended for the fourth film. The FIR includes Vikram Bhatt, Shwetambari Bhatt, and others as accused.
