The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and its Regional Officer in Dubai following a plea from a Class 12 student in Saudi Arabia. The student, Pransu Jigarkumar Patel, sought the declaration of his result, which has been withheld despite a special assessment scheme for students affected by exam cancellations in West Asian countries. The CBSE informed the court that since the student appeared as a private candidate, there was no assessment record available.
The petitioner’s past academic records were suggested as a consideration by the court. The CBSE counsel mentioned that the Board was already addressing the issue and requested more time. The student’s writ petition highlighted how the non-declaration of the result has impacted his higher education prospects and admission opportunities. Patel appeared as a private candidate in the CBSE Class 12 Improvement Examination from Al Jubail in Saudi Arabia.
The CBSE had canceled several exams, including mathematics, English, and computer science, due to tensions in the Gulf region. Despite the assessment scheme issued for affected regions, the student’s result was not declared. The petitioner’s academic career has been significantly affected by the continued withholding of the result. Alleging arbitrariness and violation of fundamental rights, the plea seeks urgent intervention from the CBSE to declare the result or conduct a special examination for the cancelled subjects.
