The Supreme Court has directed a halt to construction activities in the Yamuna river channel in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, to preserve the river’s ecological flow. The court’s concern is the potential impact of ongoing construction on the river channel in Vrindavan District, Mathura.
During the hearing, the court emphasized the importance of maintaining the ecological flow of water in the river. Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati requested more time to provide a comprehensive report on encroachments and the implementation of previous court directions.
The Supreme Court granted a final opportunity to states to submit necessary information on encroachments, warning that failure to comply would result in summoning the Chief Secretary of each state. The court also included Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in the list of states required to provide information.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in removing encroachments in Patna, the court instructed the Bihar government to ensure the removal of unauthorized structures within a specified timeframe. The court emphasized strict compliance with its directives and warned against any negligence in this regard.
