The Supreme Court emphasized the need for a fair, independent, and unbiased investigation into the suspected dowry death case of model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma. The Court urged both parties involved to avoid making public statements that could influence the ongoing probe. It expressed concerns over media coverage influencing the case’s narrative.
The Court, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, initiated suo motu proceedings due to allegations of institutional bias and procedural discrepancies in the investigation. The Bench highlighted the importance of following legal procedures and refraining from media statements. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta confirmed that the CBI would take over the investigation promptly.
Acknowledging the cooperation expected from both sides, the Court expressed confidence in the investigative agencies, including the CBI. It emphasized the importance of allowing the investigating agency to conduct a thorough probe without external influence. The Court requested the media to show restraint and avoid publishing statements that could impact the investigation’s integrity.
The apex court clarified that it had not formed any opinions on the case’s allegations and assured an independent examination by the CBI.
