Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, has alleged that covert police officers are following him during his campaign in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in South Kolkata. Adhikari has written to the Chief Election Commissioner, identifying three police personnel, including an inspector, allegedly involved in shadowing him on orders from the Trinamool Congress.
The surveillance, overseen by Inspector Nirupam Dutta of Kalighat Police Station, reportedly includes assistant sub-inspector Biswajit Mondal and watch constable Farikh Bakshi. Adhikari claims that these officers are recording details of voters he meets during his campaign, raising concerns of potential intimidation tactics.
Adhikari has labeled this surveillance as state-sponsored voter intimidation and a hindrance to free and fair elections. He has urged the Chief Election Commissioner to intervene by placing the involved officers on notice immediately. Adhikari is contesting from both Bhabanipur and Nandigram Assembly constituencies, with polling scheduled on April 29 and results on May 4.
