Acclaimed writer and musician Swanand Kirkire is teaming up with Sudhir Mishra once again for the political drama series Summer of 77. Kirkire praised Mishra’s honest and deep storytelling approach, emphasizing the enriching experience of working together. This collaboration marks their fifth project together, following successful past works like ‘Bavra Mann’ and ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’.
Summer of 77, an eight-part Hindi series, is set during the 1975-1977 Indian Emergency period, focusing on themes of youthful rebellion and idealism. The series boasts a talented cast including Rahul Bhat, Isha Talwar, Vishal Vashishtha, and others. Kirkire, who has composed the entire music album for the series, expressed the unique narrative freedom offered by the project, allowing music to drive emotional depth and subtext within the story.
Reflecting on the responsibility of creating music for a story set during the Emergency era, Kirkire highlighted the challenge of capturing the spirit of a generation questioning authority and seeking change. Composing six songs for the series, including the emotionally charged track “Ye Kaisa Hai Junoon,” Kirkire aimed to strike a balance between historical authenticity and contemporary relevance.
