Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has announced her departure from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing party chief Arvind Kejriwal of supporting corrupt practices, harassment of women, and promoting violence. Maliwal cited a decline in the party’s core values as the reason for her resignation. She mentioned being physically attacked at Kejriwal’s residence as one of the incidents that led to her decision.
Maliwal, who previously served as the Delhi Commission for Women chief, highlighted her dedication to public service over the years. She expressed disappointment in the deviation of AAP from its original principles of honest politics. Maliwal’s exit follows Raghav Chadha and six other Rajya Sabha MPs’ decision to join the BJP, citing dissatisfaction with AAP’s direction and the lack of opportunities for public service within the party.
In a press conference, Chadha announced the merger of a majority of AAP’s Rajya Sabha members with the BJP, emphasizing a shift away from what he described as honest politics within AAP. He mentioned that several prominent AAP members, including Harbhajan Singh and Swati Maliwal, are also leaving the party to align with the BJP.
