Sweden is a strong partner for India in the Make in India initiative, backing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for increased manufacturing in the country. The Consul General of Sweden in Mumbai, Sven Ostberg, highlighted the significant investments made by Swedish companies in India.
During the South Africa Freedom Day celebrations at the South African Consulate in Mumbai, the Consul General emphasized the fruitful partnership between India and Sweden. He mentioned that over 280 Swedish companies in India directly employ two lakh people and indirectly support 22,00,000 individuals.
Expressing congratulations to South Africa on its 30th anniversary, the Consul General praised the country’s transition to democracy. He commended Sweden’s historical support for South Africa’s freedom struggle, noting their assistance to the African National Congress during the apartheid era.
Sweden collaborates with the South African government to enhance bilateral trade, investments, and tourism. The Consul General mentioned the popularity of South Africa as a tourist destination among Swedish nationals.
Advocating for peace and stability in the Middle East, Sweden, along with India, emphasizes the importance of these goals. The Consul General condemned any form of attack on political leaders, expressing dismay over recent events in Washington and stressing the value of democracy and freedom of speech.
