Two-time Asian Games champion, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, showcased his skill by clinching the gold medal in the men’s shot put event at the 5th Indian Open Throws Competition in Patiala. Toor, aged 31, achieved a season-best throw of 20.51m, expressing satisfaction with his performance. He surpassed the 20m mark thrice out of six attempts, indicating good training progress.
Toor holds a national record of 21.17m set in June 2023 and aims to peak later this year to defend his title at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan. Another highlight of the competition was Damneet Singh, representing Reliance, who won the gold in hammer throw but fell short of the national record with a best throw of 70.64m. Singh’s performance included throws of 69.29m, 70.21m, F, 70.04m, and 67.57m.
In the men’s events, Tajinderpal Singh Toor secured first place in shot put with 20.51m, followed by Karanveer Singh at 19.36m and Sanyam at 18.28m. In the hammer throw category, Damneet Singh led with 70.64m, trailed by Ashish Jakhar at 68.09m and Devang at 63.27m. The competition also featured impressive performances in the U20 categories for both shot put and hammer throw.
