Several prominent figures from the Tamil film industry, including actors Vikram, Dhanush, Ajith, and music director Anirudh Ravichander, were early voters in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Vikram voted at The Besant Theosopical Higher Secondary School, while Gautham Karthik, son of actor and politician Karthik, cast his vote at Stella Maris College. Ajith, who rushed back from Belgium where he was racing, was one of the first to vote in Thiruvanmiyur.
Popular music director Anirudh Ravichander and actor Dhanush voted at the St Francis Xavier Middle School in Alwarpet around 9 am. Many other film celebrities are also participating in the election process alongside numerous voters across the state, choosing from a total of 4,023 candidates. The nomination process, starting on March 30, saw a high turnout with 7,599 papers filed, but around 2,460 nominations were rejected during scrutiny due to incomplete or invalid documents.
Karur stands out as the most crowded constituency with 79 candidates, indicating fierce political competition. Perambur follows with 47 candidates, while Kolathur and Paramathi-Velur have 35 and 31 candidates, respectively. In contrast, Ambasamudram has only five contestants, and Udhagamandalam, Gudalur, and Coonoor each have six candidates, suggesting less intense contests in these hill and southern constituencies. The polling for the 234-member Assembly is scheduled for April 23, with vote counting set for May 4.
