Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran expressed confidence in the party’s performance in the upcoming Assembly elections, aiming to secure between 20 and 30 seats. He highlighted the potential for BJP legislators to hold ministerial positions if the NDA forms the state government. The party’s Assembly election headquarters in Chennai was inaugurated by Nagenthran, emphasizing their readiness for significant gains.
Senior leaders, including Union Minister of State L. Murugan, were present at the event where the BJP flag was hoisted. Nagenthran criticized the current DMK government, citing concerns over law and order and unmet electoral pledges. He advocated for a “double-engine government” to expedite welfare schemes and development projects in Tamil Nadu, emphasizing the benefits of a unified ruling party or alliance.
Addressing queries about V.K. Sasikala’s potential new political party, Nagenthran dismissed any impact on the BJP-led alliance, stating no discussions had occurred. He clarified that seat-sharing talks with the AIADMK would commence after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu. Senior BJP leader V.P. Duraisamy’s suggestion of BJP members becoming ministers in the future government was supported by Nagenthran, who envisioned 20 to 30 BJP MLAs potentially assuming ministerial roles.
Nagenthran’s remarks alluding to a coalition government have stirred political discussions, contrasting AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s assertions of forming a government independently.
