Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who took office on May 10, is gearing up for a significant cabinet expansion as the state government readies for its first full-fledged Assembly session and crucial administrative decisions.
Vijay, along with nine ministers, including N. Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, and K.A. Sengottaiyan, was sworn in, signaling a new political era in the state. Discussions are underway to ensure broader representation within the ruling alliance and supporting groups.
The Congress party, a recent addition to the alliance, may secure two ministerial positions in the upcoming cabinet expansion, as per political sources. Additionally, the S.P. Velumani faction, which broke away from AIADMK to back the Vijay-led government, is likely to receive representation as well, potentially filling up to five cabinet slots.
Efforts are ongoing to finalize the expanded cabinet structure in the coming days through consultations with alliance partners and supporting leaders. The ministry is anticipated to grow to approximately 34 members, with TVK expected to retain a majority of portfolios while honoring alliance commitments.
The swearing-in of new ministers is set to take place at Raj Bhavan in Chennai, with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administering the oath of office. Subsequently, the government will kick off its first Assembly session, commencing with the Governor’s address and discussions on the motion of thanks involving members from both treasury and opposition benches.
