Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is on his inaugural official trip to New Delhi after taking office. His busy agenda includes meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Union Ministers, and prominent Congress leaders. This underscores the increasing political importance of the state’s newly established coalition government.
Vijay assumed office as Chief Minister on May 10 following his party’s victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The coalition government, comprising Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML, is the state’s first in many years.
During his two-day visit, Vijay will travel from Chennai to Delhi in a private aircraft to seek enhanced Central support for Tamil Nadu’s development and financial needs. He is set to unveil a statue of Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar at Jawaharlal Nehru University, emphasizing Tamil cultural identity nationally.
The Chief Minister is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence and present a comprehensive memorandum on various Tamil Nadu issues. These include requests related to the Chennai Metro Rail expansion, pending GST compensation, educational funds, and timely supply of fertilizers for the upcoming agricultural season.
