Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin criticized AIADMK’s Edappadi K. Palaniswami for allegedly spreading falsehoods and not opposing the BJP-led government’s weakening of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Stalin highlighted issues with the scheme’s implementation, citing delays in wage payments and questioning the credibility of the proposed 125-day work framework. He accused the Centre of neglecting rural employment responsibilities by undermining the core guarantees of MGNREGS.
Stalin directly targeted Palaniswami, questioning his influence with the BJP leadership and criticizing him for not challenging the Centre’s decisions regarding MGNREGS. He condemned the shift of 40% of the scheme’s financial burden to state governments as an authoritarian move. Stalin warned Palaniswami that by supporting policies detrimental to MGNREGS, he was jeopardizing his own political future and the welfare of rural citizens dependent on the program.
