Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is set to kick off the first phase of Tamil Nadu government’s laptop distribution initiative, ‘The World Is in Your Hands’, on Monday. This program aims to distribute 10 lakh laptops to college students in the state, emphasizing digital empowerment in higher education. The initiative is part of the government’s broader focus on student welfare and inclusive growth, with various education-oriented schemes already in place.
The distribution of 20 lakh laptops to college students in two phases was announced by the Chief Minister to equip them with essential digital skills for today’s technology-driven world. The inaugural event for the first phase is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Monday at the Chennai Trade Centre, where Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin will also be present. Students from government engineering colleges, arts and science colleges, medical, agricultural and law institutions, polytechnics, and industrial training institutes will benefit from this scheme.
The laptops, provided by top global brands like Dell, Acer, and HP, are equipped with an Intel i3 processor, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD storage, Windows 11 Home operating system, MS Office 365 software, and a high-quality laptop bag. This initiative is expected to enhance students’ digital capabilities, improve their job prospects, and enable them to explore various fields like information technology, software development, digital marketing, and more. The government believes this program will bridge the digital gap between rural and urban areas and boost technology-based entrepreneurship opportunities.
The scheme is seen as a significant educational reform that aligns with Tamil Nadu’s vision of inclusive digital development, preparing students to compete effectively in the global economy.
