Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has decided to keep crucial departments like Home, Public Administration, and Police in the newly formed government. This move, following the allocation of portfolios among ministers sworn in on May 10, signifies a significant administrative milestone for the state.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar approved the portfolio distribution based on the Chief Minister’s recommendations. Less than a week after assuming office, Vijay and his Council of Ministers are now focusing on establishing the governance structure and policy priorities of the new administration.
The allocation strategy highlights the government’s priority of maintaining direct oversight over core administrative and law-and-order issues while delegating development and sector-specific responsibilities to cabinet colleagues. Vijay, as Chief Minister, will supervise various departments, including Public Administration, Police, Home Affairs, and several welfare-related sectors.
N. Anand will be responsible for Rural Development and Water Resources, Aadhav Arjuna for Public Works and Sports Development, and Dr K.G. Arunraj for Health, Medical Education, and Family Welfare. Senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan will handle Finance, P. Venkataramanan Food and Civil Supplies, and R. Nirmalkumar Energy Resources and Law.
Rajmohan has been assigned School Education, Tamil Development, and Information and Publicity, while Dr T.K. Prabhu will oversee Natural Resources and mining-related sectors. Industries and Investment Promotion portfolios have been given to Selvi S. Keerthana, the youngest member of the cabinet. With the portfolio distribution finalized, the focus now shifts to policy implementation and administrative preparations for the upcoming Assembly session.
