The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has announced statewide protests on May 8 against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government and Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. The protests are in response to the failure to invite Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief C. Joseph Vijay to form the next government despite his party being the largest in the Assembly elections.
Accusing the BJP and the Governor of denying democratic rights, the Congress Committee president criticized the alleged political maneuvers. The party views the situation as an attempt to disrupt the people’s mandate from the recent elections, stating that the Governor’s actions are unconstitutional.
The protests are scheduled to take place at all district headquarters in Tamil Nadu, with a call for participation from various Congress leaders and members. The ongoing uncertainty in government formation follows a split verdict in the Assembly elections, with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerging as the largest party.
