Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin is set to launch various public welfare initiatives in Tirupattur district on Saturday. These projects include a lounge for construction workers, a Village Knowledge Centre, and an integrated seva centre for persons with disabilities. The aim is to enhance welfare services, skill development, and accessibility to government schemes for workers and marginalized communities in the district.
One of the significant projects to be unveiled is a construction workers’ lounge costing ₹34.29 lakh. This lounge, situated at the Tirupattur taluk office, will provide a safe waiting area for workers, especially women, before they start work. It is designed to be disability-friendly with necessary features like ramps.
The lounge, covering 350 square feet, is equipped with benches, fans, drinking water facilities, and mobile phone charging units. It can accommodate around 15 workers at a time and will operate from 6 A.M. to 10 A.M. daily, except on Sundays. This facility aims to streamline the hiring process and enhance safety for workers who previously waited on busy roadsides for jobs.
Officials mentioned that there are over 1.18 lakh registered construction workers in Tirupattur district under the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board. Trade unions can also make use of this new lounge facility to benefit the workers. Udhayanidhi will also inaugurate a Village Knowledge Centre costing ₹1.27 crore at Keel Mittalam village near Tirupattur town, offering skill training and digital literacy programs for Adi Dravidar youth.
