Campaigning for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections concluded at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a crucial 48-hour “silence period” before the polling day on April 23. The current government’s term will end on May 10, with the Election Commission scheduling a single-phase election on April 23 and vote counting on May 4.
Political parties in Tamil Nadu have finalized seat-sharing agreements, selected candidates, and conducted vigorous campaigns across the state in preparation for the polls. The main contenders include the ruling DMK leading the Secular Progressive Alliance and the AIADMK heading the National Democratic Alliance.
Apart from these alliances, the Naam Tamilar Katchi and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam are also contesting independently. Leaders from various parties have been actively campaigning across the state, despite the scorching summer temperatures, with the aim of reaching out to voters.
