A high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, was held in Tamil Nadu to strategize the response to the ongoing Cauvery water dispute following the state Assembly’s resolution against Karnataka’s Mekedatu dam project. The meeting, attended by legal experts and government officials, focused on legal and administrative actions amidst the water inflow shortfall from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu’s strong opposition to the proposed reservoir.

The consultation aimed to review the current scenario and devise plans to protect Tamil Nadu’s water rights, bringing together key figures like Minister N. Anand, Minister Adhav Arjuna, and Chief Secretary Dr M. Sai Kumar. The state Assembly had previously passed a resolution denouncing Karnataka’s efforts on the Mekedatu dam project, emphasizing the unity needed to safeguard Tamil Nadu’s interests over the Cauvery River.

Chief Minister Vijay stressed the significance of water as a critical resource for the state and called for bipartisan support to uphold Tamil Nadu’s rights over river water. He urged legislators to unite beyond political affiliations, highlighting the resolution’s aim to secure farmers’ interests and ensure long-term water security. The government’s commitment to intensify legal and administrative actions against the Mekedatu project reflects its dedication to securing Tamil Nadu’s rightful share of Cauvery waters.
