Tamil Nadu’s Transport and Electricity Minister, S.S. Sivasankar, has criticized AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami for allegedly spreading misinformation about the state government’s laptop distribution initiative. The scheme, named ‘World in Your Hands,’ aims to provide 20 lakh college students with laptops to enhance their global competitiveness, with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin set to inaugurate it.
Sivasankar accused Palaniswami of being envious of the Dravidian Model government’s welfare projects, leading to his disparaging remarks. He also ridiculed Palaniswami’s assertions of the AIADMK’s return to power, citing electoral setbacks since 2016 that have weakened the party’s position.
Highlighting the success of the DMK-led alliance in recent elections, Sivasankar disputed Palaniswami’s claims of AIADMK’s stronghold in Salem. He further criticized Palaniswami for alleged mismanagement of laptop distribution during his tenure, referencing a CAG report that revealed significant lapses and financial losses.
The new laptop distribution program will offer students devices from renowned brands like Dell, Acer, and HP, featuring advanced specifications to support their academic endeavors. Sivasankar also questioned Palaniswami’s leadership credentials, pointing out the lack of acknowledgment from prominent figures like Union Home Minister Amit Shah during political events.
