Escalating the political dispute over the Cauvery River issue, Tamil Nadu Public Works and Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna defended the state government’s actions regarding the Mekedatu dam. He refuted DMK president M.K. Stalin’s claims of inaction, stating that Tamil Nadu has consistently taken legal and political steps to protect its Cauvery water rights.

Aadhav emphasized that the government’s focus is on safeguarding delta farmers, ensuring water security, and halting Karnataka’s Mekedatu reservoir plans. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay personally raised objections with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stressing adherence to tribunal awards and court rulings while opposing the Mekedatu project.

The minister highlighted the state’s efforts, including a unanimous assembly resolution against Mekedatu, appeals to the central government, and engagements with water management authorities. Aadhav criticized the previous administration for alleged failures in defending Tamil Nadu’s interests and pledged to pursue all legal avenues to uphold the state’s water rights.
