The Tamil Nadu Police has launched the Singappen Special Task Force, a dedicated women’s safety wing with a unique uniform and insignia. Personnel in this elite unit will wear navy blue shirts and khaki trousers, distinct from regular police units. The uniform will include a specially designed logo and the official Tamil Nadu Police emblem, highlighting the force’s focus on safeguarding women and addressing gender-related crimes.
The Singappen Special Task Force, a key initiative of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, will operate under an Inspector General of Police (IGP) and concentrate on women’s safety and crime prevention. Senior IPS officer K. Bhavaneeswari has been appointed as the head of the task force, leading the recruitment of over 30 personnel including SPs, DSPs, inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables.
Selected personnel will undergo a month-long training program focusing on women-centric policing, cyber safety, victim assistance, self-defense, and rapid response operations. Specialized training modules have been developed to equip officers with investigative and field-handling skills. The formal inauguration of the Singappen Special Task Force is expected to take place in Chennai soon, aiming to enhance public trust and improve policing for women in the state.
