Tamil Nadu is gearing up for the Census 2027, planning to conduct its initial entirely digital population count. The state government is coordinating efforts to merge technology-driven self-enumeration with traditional field verification for faster, more precise, and transparent data collection.

A State-level coordination committee, led by Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, convened its inaugural meeting at the Secretariat to assess the roadmap and administrative preparations. Discussions primarily revolved around inter-departmental coordination, appointment of census officers, and logistical arrangements for the extensive operation.

The Directorate of Census Operations disclosed that approximately 1.5 lakh personnel, comprising enumerators and supervisors, will be deployed statewide. These officials will undertake house-listing and housing census activities, set to commence post the Assembly election.
