Tamil Nadu’s Kamali Moorthy, a talented teenage surfer, achieved a remarkable feat by securing India’s surfing quota for the Asian Games. She emerged victorious in both the Women’s Open and Surfing Juniors U-18 Girls categories at the seventh Indian Open of Surfing. This event serves as a crucial platform for selecting India’s team for the 2026 Asian Games.
The competition also saw other winners, with Tamil Nadu’s Kishore Kumar clinching the Men’s Open title, and Pradeep Pujar from Karnataka winning the Surfing Juniors U-18 Boys category. The championship, organized by the Mantra Surf Club and Surfing Swami Foundation under the Surfing Federation of India, received support from various entities, including the Government of Karnataka and the New Mangalore Port Authority.
Following the event, the Indian surfing team for Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will be chosen based on performances at the Indian Open of Surfing 2026, among other criteria. Kamali Moorthy’s impressive performance in both categories showcased her talent and determination, earning her praise and recognition.
