Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian announced that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate health department buildings valued at Rs 360 crore on February 6. These new facilities, including hospitals and research centers, aim to bolster the state’s public healthcare system. The projects encompass district headquarters hospitals, primary health centers, and a microbiological research center at Guindy, enhancing the accessibility and quality of government healthcare services.
Subramanian highlighted that Tamil Nadu has made significant strides in preventive healthcare by administering the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to a 14-year-old girl, marking a national first. This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to women’s health and cancer prevention through early intervention. The ongoing Nalam Kaakkum Stalin scheme has seen substantial progress, with over 1,000 medical camps conducted out of the planned 1,256 across the state.
The minister emphasized the strengthening of the state’s medical infrastructure under the DMK government, noting the establishment of headquarters government hospitals in 17 districts. Additionally, funds amounting to Rs 1,078 crore have been allocated for the development of such hospitals in 19 more districts. In Tiruchirappalli, a new building for the Government Hospital, constructed at a cost of Rs 135 crore, is set to open for public use in the coming weeks. Cancer screening centers will also be established in Tiruchirappalli to facilitate early detection and treatment, aligning with existing centers in Chennai, Madurai, and Thanjavur.
Subramanian reiterated the government’s commitment to providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare to all segments of society, with a particular focus on preventive care and strengthening public health infrastructure.
