Tamil Nadu showcased its sports prowess as female athletes who excelled in beach volleyball at the Khelo India Beach Games were acknowledged by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. The state, under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, is actively working to establish itself as India’s sports hub, with initiatives like the Tamil Nadu Champions Trust Fund providing financial aid to talented athletes. This fund assists athletes in acquiring sports gear, participating in global competitions, and receiving specialized training.
In a recent event, the Deputy Chief Minister distributed financial support to outstanding athletes at the national level. Notable recipients included athletes J. Gokulapandiyan, V. Naveenkumar, J. Suji, and K. Yamini, who were granted Rs 1.35 lakh each for sports equipment. Additionally, archers P. Satheeshkumar and R. Pritheshwaran received Rs 1 lakh each, while para-cyclist P. Pradeep, who competed in the Asian Para Road Cycling Championship, was awarded Rs 2.5 lakh for competition expenses.
The financial aid extended to athletes also included cyclist R. Sanjay, who received Rs 2 lakh for his participation in the Asian Road Cycling Championship. Overall, eight athletes received support totaling Rs 7.85 lakh from the Tamil Nadu Champions Trust Fund to enhance their international competitiveness and upgrade essential sports equipment.
Following the fund distribution, medal-winning Tamil Nadu beach volleyball athletes formally met the Deputy Chief Minister to express their appreciation. Among the medalists were K. Deepika, Su. Pavithra, M. Swathi, A. Darshini, V. Rajesh, So. Bharath, S. Abithan, and U. Poonthamizhann. The event was attended by officials from the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department, emphasizing the state’s commitment to nurturing sports talent and fostering a conducive environment for athletes.
