A day after their impressive performance in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, leaders of C. Joseph Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) reiterated their commitment to fulfilling their pledges. Winning candidates convened at the party headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai, for a crucial meeting to plan ahead, with heavy police presence in anticipation of their arrival. V.K. Ramkumar, the victorious candidate from Anna Nagar, hailed the win as a significant moment for Tamil Nadu and expressed gratitude to the voters for their trust.
The focus for the party is now on internal discussions, as stated by Abishek R., the winner from Polur, emphasizing the need to strategize for the future. R.V. Ranjith Kumar, the triumphant candidate for the Kancheepuram Assembly constituency, criticized past administrations for alleged corruption, highlighting the need for change. TVK’s V. Sampath Kumar, the successful candidate from Coimbatore (North), thanked voters for supporting the party’s principles and message.
Despite breaking the long-standing dominance of Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu politics, TVK, in its debut election, has emerged as a significant player but falls short of a clear majority in the 234-member Assembly. Leading in 108 constituencies, the party is ten seats away from the required majority mark. The party’s victory signifies a shift in the state’s political landscape, with expectations high for its future role in governance.
