Teenager Kimi Antonelli showcased a remarkable performance at the British Grand Prix by overtaking Lewis Hamilton and securing a crucial victory to extend his lead in the Formula One drivers’ championship. The 19-year-old Italian displayed composure as he strategically passed Hamilton’s Ferrari on lap eight, eventually widening his championship advantage to 43 points over George Russell.
Amid Antonelli’s pursuit of Hamilton, a fierce battle unfolded behind them with Lando Norris, George Russell, and Max Verstappen engaging in multiple position changes in the early stages. Norris, starting from sixth, swiftly climbed to fourth and then settled into third position, distancing himself from the competition.
George Russell managed to regain his position over Verstappen on lap nine, while Charles Leclerc of Ferrari overtook Verstappen to claim fifth place. Despite facing pressure, Verstappen defended sixth place from McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in the closing laps, with Liam Lawson securing the final points position after holding off Isack Hadjar.
Antonelli’s composed victory signifies a standout moment in his debut season, demonstrating maturity by outperforming the seven-time world champion Hamilton and moving closer to his maiden Formula One title. Qualifying for the British Grand Prix is scheduled to commence at 7:30 PM IST.
